1. What is EMSA Summer School?

EMSA Summer School is a project set up by EMSA Zagreb and SSCMA (Student Section of Croatian Medical Association) 7 years ago. Being realized 7 years in a row, it is an EMSA summer school with the longest tradition.
It consists of an educational part comprising lectures, interactive seminars, practical skills and problem based learning, and of numerous social activities offered to participants.
In addition to this, participants are offered a wide choice of electives such as ECG basics, surgical skills, sport trauma, diving medicine etc.

 
 2. Where is ESS held?


Summer School 2010 will take place in Dubrovnik, in the premises of the Centre for Advanced Academic Studies(CAAS), situated mere minutes away from the old city.

 
 3. Who organizes EMSA Summer School?


ESS is organized by EMSA Zagreb i SSCMA(Student Section of Croatian Medical Association). Since founded, these two organizations have together realized more than 20 successful projects in which participated more than 2 000 medical students.

 
4. Who can attend EMSA Summer School?

ESS is meant for medical students who are in 4th, 5th and final year of their studies and have no previous knowledge in emergency medicine, as well as at those who would like to expand their knowledge in this particular field of medicine.
However, participants should be familiar with basic principles of ECG, farmacology etc.

 
5. Why choose EMSA Summer School?

ESS is organized and led by Croatian top experts in this field of medicine. Classes are held in small groups, allowing individual approach to each student. Being realized seven years in a row, ESS Dubrovnik is ESS with the longest tradition.
As it takes place in high summer season in Dubrovnik, one of the most prominent tourist resorts of the Mediterranean, there are numerous things to do and see during your stay in Dubrovnik. You can soak up some sun on nearby beaches, enjoy world-class music, dance and theatre performances at the famous annual Dubrovnik Summer Festival, stroll along the top of the fortified walls that encircle the old town nucleus etc.
For those in search of nightlife, there are discotheques where you can dance till dawn and often there are parties organized in the open, and need we explain any more? Warm summer nights, good music, cheerful atmosphere... and that's it!

 
6. What fees are charged for participants and what does the fee include?

Depending on the time of registration, fees for participation in ESS vary from 300 to 400EUR.
First 14 participants to register are charged with 300EUR.
The following 13 are charged with 350EUR and last 13 participants to register with 400EUR of tuition fee.
EMSA Summer School fee includes: tuition with all the study materials and final exam, housing (8nights) and 3 meals per day. It also includes all social activities running alongside the classes during the  nine days of the program, such as sightseeing, field-trip to Lokrum Island, farewell trip to Lopud Island etc.
 
7. Where are classes held?

Classes are held at Centre for Advanced Academic Studies(CAAS). Each lecture room is equiped with air conditioning, video-data projector, overhead projector, slide projector, projection screen, flip chart, video recorder, TV monitor, PC and internet.
 
8. What are course aims?

At the conclusion of the course the student should develop basic knowledge of  cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS & ALS), shock & coma, drug abuse & poisoning, polytraumatized patient & basic surgical skills, rational pharmacotherapy and pediatric emergencies.
 
9. Are there organised social activities I can participate in?

EMSA Summer school students can participate in a range of social activities running alongside the classes:

    * Dubrovnik Summer Festival
    * EMSA village party
    * barbecue
    * Trip to island of Lokrum, where according to legend, Richard the Lionheart was cast ashore after being shipwrecked
    * Guided sightseeing
    * Stroll along Dubrovnik’s city walls,which are among the best preserved and most attractive in the world and the city's most famous feature
    * Gala dinner
    * Farewell trip to the island of Lopud

All social programme activities are included in the tuition fee and you can choose to do as many, or as few as you prefer.
 
10. If I cancel my place on the Summer School will I receive a refund?


Participants who withdraw prior to May 15th 2010 will be refunded 100% of tuition fee paid. Those who withdraw until June 1st 2010 will be refunded 50% and those who withdraw until June 15th 2010 25% of tuition fee paid.
After this date no refunds will be given.
(All refunds are reduced for any foreign bank tranfers or any similar expenses.)
